Katra: Students from the B.Arch. program at the School of Architecture & Landscape Design (SoALD), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), participated in the 11th Building Material Exposition organized by the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Jammu & Kashmir Chapter. The event, held in Jammu, provided a platform for the students to exhibit their academic work, including architectural designs and models for various building typologies such as residential spaces, cultural centers, hospitals, and shopping complexes.
Under the supervision of Ar. Abhiney Gupta, Head of SoALD, and Ar. Aditya Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, SoALD, both Executive Members of the IIA J&K Chapter, the students received significant appreciation from visitors, particularly architects and professionals from the construction industry. The participation offered valuable exposure to the students, especially to state-of-the-art building materials, fixtures, and furnishings essential for executing and finishing architectural projects.
Faculty members, Ar. Abhimanyu Sharma and Ar. Navin Gupta, both associates and fellow members of IIA, collaborated with IIA, J&K Chapter to curate this initiative. In recognition of academic excellence, the Best Undergraduate Thesis Award was presented to Mr. Debjyoti Mukhopadhyay, under the supervision of Ar. Abhiney Gupta, further strengthening the academic-industry interface.
The participation in the event is a reflection of SoALD’s commitment to fostering collaboration with professional bodies like IIA, which contributed to the school achieving the 16th rank in NIRF 2022. Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU, congratulated the school for providing students with this valuable exposure to the professional industry. The participation was facilitated by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
