Jammu Tawi: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday prevented Congress leaders and workers from marching towards the Raj Bhavan to protest against the BJP’s policy on billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani and its handling of the ongoing violence in Manipur. The Congress workers gathered at the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) headquarters, but were stopped by police as they attempted to march to the Raj Bhavan. The authorities shut the gates of the Congress office, confining the protesters inside, officials said. Congress leaders stated that the protest was intended to highlight the BJP’s defense of Adani and its “utter failure” in managing the continuing bloodshed in Manipur. A Congress leader accused the administration of using police force to block the march, adding, “We were not allowed to move out of the gate.” The protesters also demanded the arrest of Adani, alleging his involvement in a large-scale scam, including a controversy within the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited. Additionally, the Congress called for the formation of a joint parliamentary committee to investigate Adani’s dealings.
The protest reflects growing discontent within the Congress regarding both the BJP’s handling of internal affairs and its relationship with the industrialist.
