Cong and its rotten ecosystem can’t hide their misdeeds: PM Modi on Ambedkar row

New Delhi, Dec 18, 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party for allegedly insulting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and sought to defend Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks in Parliament, which have sparked controversy. In a series of posts on the social media platform X, PM Modi expressed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Union government have shown unwavering respect for Dr. Ambedkar, India’s first law minister, and his ideals.

Reacting to the criticism from the opposition over Shah’s statement, Modi accused the Congress of attempting to obscure its history of disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the rights of the SC/ST communities. He claimed that Shah had revealed the Congress’s dark history, which had left the opposition “stunned” and now resorting to theatrics. “The people know the truth!” Modi asserted.

The prime minister highlighted the Congress’s alleged role in disrespecting Ambedkar, citing instances such as the party’s efforts to get him defeated in elections, campaigning against him, and even denying him the Bharat Ratna for years. Modi also pointed to the absence of Ambedkar’s portrait in Parliament’s Central Hall as further evidence of the Congress’s disregard for the leader.

Modi accused the Congress of overseeing the worst massacres against SC/ST communities during its rule and claimed that despite being in power for decades, the party did little to empower these marginalized groups. In contrast, he detailed the initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government to uplift these communities, including the strengthening of the SC/ST Act, flagship schemes like Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ujjwala Yojana, which he said have directly impacted the lives of the poor and marginalized.

The PM also pointed to the development of Panchteerth, five iconic places linked to Dr. Ambedkar, and highlighted the government’s resolution of long-standing issues, such as securing land for Chaitya Bhoomi. He mentioned visiting the site to pray and the development of 26, Alipur Road in Delhi, where Ambedkar spent his last years.

Modi concluded by asserting that despite efforts to deny Ambedkar’s legacy, the BJP government has worked tirelessly to honor his vision and contribute to the welfare of the SC/ST communities.
