    Ex-Serviceman, suspended teacher among three arrested for fraud in J&K

    Jammu Tawi, Dec 4: The Crime Branch (CB) of Jammu on Wednesday arrested three individuals, including two notorious cheaters, Jameel Anjum (a suspended government teacher) and Saroop Lal (an ex-serviceman), both of whom have several cases of cheating, forgery, and fraud registered against them in Jammu and Kashmir. The arrests were followed by the filing of three separate challans in courts in Jammu and Kathua.

    Jameel Anjum, a habitual offender from Narania Mohalla, Jammu, has nine FIRs and one PV registered against him with the Crime Branch and District Police Jammu. Meanwhile, Saroop Lal, a resident of Bishnah/Bari Brahmana, has ten FIRs and two PVs registered against him. Lal has also been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

    The third accused, Arvinder Singh, was arrested in a separate case involving the preparation of false Permanent Resident Certificates (PRC) and land procurement by fraudulent means.

    Jameel Anjum, who was arrested after defrauding Karan Singh of Rs. 28.20 lakhs under the pretense of securing a government job, faces charges under FIR No. 70/2023. Saroop Lal was arrested for duping Ram Paul of Kathua of Rs. 5 lakhs under similar circumstances and faces charges under FIR No. 22/2024. Arvinder Singh has been charged in FIR No. 50/2015 for fraudulently obtaining land with the help of revenue officials.

    Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed that challans for all three cases have been produced in the respective courts of law in Jammu and Kathua following the arrests.
