New Delhi, Dec 2: President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of making tax collection processes less intrusive while highlighting the need for greater technological integration. She made these remarks while addressing trainee officers of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Murmu underlined that the responsibility of bringing innovative ideas and solutions to the field of tax administration lies with the young officers. She noted that taxation is not just a tool for increasing national revenue but also plays a crucial role in the social, economic, and political development of the country. The taxes paid by citizens contribute significantly to national development, funding infrastructure, socio-economic schemes, and vital services such as education and healthcare.
In her address, Murmu encouraged the officers to work with dedication and devotion, asserting that their efforts could greatly contribute to the country’s progress. “In this new and dynamic era, efforts should be made to make tax collection less intrusive and more reliant on technology,” the President said.
She further explained that the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in the field of Customs and Indirect Taxes helps connect the economy through a uniform tax system and shared administrative values. IRS officers play a pivotal role in ensuring uniformity in tax administration across the country and help utilize resources for economic growth and national development.
The President also stressed that IRS officers must develop transparent systems and processes that ensure accountability. She highlighted their essential role as a link between the government, business, and state tax administrations.
With the global socio-economic landscape evolving, Murmu pointed out that national interests are increasingly shaped by international economic cooperation. IRS officers, as the guardians of the country’s economic boundaries, must always approach their work with honesty and dedication, she concluded.
