Udhampur, Dec 2: Police claimed to have arrested a truck driver in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday for allegedly smuggling 211 kilograms of poppy. Officials said the arrest was made after a routine check of vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Jakhani.
During the search, a police team recovered eight bags containing a total of 211 kilograms of poppy. The driver, identified as Mohammad Hanief, was arrested at the scene, and both the truck and the contraband were seized.
A case has been registered at Udhampur Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing. The authorities have not ruled out the possibility of larger drug trafficking operations being involved in the case.
