Srinagar: Higher reaches of Kashmir, including the tourist resort town of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district and the upper areas of Gulmarg, received fresh snowfall on Saturday, as the Meteorological Department forecasted wet weather for the Valley. Light snow was also reported from other high-altitude locations like Zojila and Sadhna Top in Kupwara, with some areas experiencing light rain as well.
The weather conditions, accompanied by cloud cover, led to a rise in the minimum temperature across most places in Kashmir. Srinagar, which had recorded the coldest night of the season on Friday, saw the temperature rise to 2.5°C, up from the previous night’s minus 1.2°C. Other areas like Qazigund and Pahalgam recorded temperatures of 0.8°C and 3.2°C, respectively, while Gulmarg registered a low of minus 0.5°C. The Met office has predicted light rain or snow at scattered to fairly widespread places in the higher reaches of Kashmir on Saturday. The weather is expected to remain mainly dry from Sunday, though light rain or snow is possible at isolated locations in the higher reaches. There is also a chance of light snow or rain in the higher areas on December 1, but the weather is expected to stay dry between December 2-5.
