    Justice Sanjiv Khanna to be sworn in as 51st CJI on Monday

    New Delhi: Justice Sanjiv Khanna will be sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India on Monday, November 11th. The oath of office will be administered by President Droupadi Murmu at 10 a.m. in a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The outgoing CJI Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud will retire on Sunday, making way for Khanna, who is set to serve a six-month tenure as the Chief Justice. The Government of India issued a formal notification appointing Khanna, effective from November 11, 2024. Khanna, born on May 14, 1960, began his legal career in 1983 and has experience in various legal fields, including constitutional law, taxation, arbitration, commercial law, and environmental law. He also worked as senior standing counsel for the Income Tax Department, representing the National Capital Territory of Delhi. On his last working day, outgoing Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, became emotional as he reflected on his tenure, expressing the honor of serving the nation and highlighting the opportunities for professional growth and personal development in his farewell speech.
