Woman peddler among three held with 1kg ICE

In a significant crackdown on drugs, Punjab Police have successfully shut down a major drug trafficking network operating in Amritsar. Acting on intelligence, the police raided various locations and arrested three individuals including a 42-year-old woman named Daljit Kaur who was involved in distributing drugs.

Over 1 kg of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), commonly known as meth, weighing 2.45 kg of heroin and 520 grams of a chemical precursor used to manufacture drugs were recovered from their possession. The estimated street value of the large cache of drugs seized is believed to be in lakhs.

Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon stated that investigations revealed the main conspirator was 27-year-old Gurbax Singh, a repeat drug offender out on bail. He sourced precursors and adulterated heroin to manufacture and distribute crystal meth for profit. Daljit Kaur’s arrest in June provided the lead to nab 21-year-old Arshdeep Singh with 200 grams of heroin. Gurbax has now been charged for running the network.

With Afghanistan opium production declining, traffickers are turning to chemical routes to meet demand. Rising ICE seizures in Punjab support this. The persistent anti-narcotics efforts are disrupting supply chains, forcing some toward local drug synthesis using precursors. DGP Gaurav Yadav praised the operation’s success in clamping down on drug smuggling and manufacturing in the state.

The arrests once more highlight the determination of Punjab Police to crack down on the drug trade blighting society and destroy networks preying on vulnerable sections. With major players in custody, it’s hoped related peddlers will now be easier to apprehend.
