Amazon Prime Day is known for offering deep discounts on a wide range of products but are the deals on electronics truly better than their regular retail prices? To find out, I compared the costs of some top-selling devices from Apple, Samsung, OnePlus and others during the recently concluded Prime Day sale against their street prices in physical stores.
The iPhone 15 which was part of Apple’s latest lineup saw a marginal discount on Amazon but was available for slightly cheaper in stores. However, models like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 saw better markdowns of up to 15% on the e-commerce giant making them more affordable options compared to retail.
Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra which touts best-in-class camera abilities was discounted by over Rs 12,000 on Amazon against street prices. OnePlus’ premium 12 variant mirrored costs across both platforms.
In the laptop category, older MacBook Air models with Apple’s in-house M1 and M2 chips enjoyed savings upwards of Rs 5,000 whereas discounts on the latest 10th gen iPad were minimal across shops and online.
While not every listed device saw a significant difference, Amazon on the whole offered more electronics at lower prices, especially pre-owned and previous generation equipment, than regular Mom & Pop stores this Prime season. The findings indicate savvy users can score better bargains by checking both avenues.
