Appointments made to leadership positions at Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
Government announces new leadership appointments at the Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation as Saurabh Garg takes over the crucial role of Secretary.
The government announced earlier this week that Saurabh Garg, who currently holds additional charge as Secretary of Social Justice and Empowerment, has now been given full-time responsibilities as Secretary of Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
Garg, a 1991 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre who has extensive experience working with the government on agriculture, rural development and social welfare programs, has also been tasked with leading the National Statistical Commission as its new Secretary.
Before being named MoSPI Secretary on a full-time basis, Garg had been holding additional charge of the position for the past month after the completion of tenure of previous incumbent GP Samanta in April.
As part of the reshuffle, Amit Yadav, a 1991 batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer who succeeds Garg as Secretary of Social Justice and Empowerment, has taken over responsibilities with immediate effect.
MoSPI oversees crucial data collection efforts including economic surveys, labour force surveys, consumption expenditure surveys and compilation of GDP and inflation numbers. Garg’s strong background in program implementation and data-driven policymaking will help provide strategic vision to the ministry.
