Flattening the tall claims of the Lieutenant Governor of giving priority to hygiene, Sunderbani Main Chowk has turned into garbage dumping site, courtesy apathy of Municipal Committee and local administration
Sunderbani, the Main Chowk, which serves as the central bus stand for thousands of commuters, has become a sight of growing concern, wherein heaps of garbage is littered in the area, particularly along the nalla, causing stink and distress among the locals and commuters alike.
“Despite the presence of the Sunderbani Tehsil Municipal Committee (MC) officers and employees, who are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the area, there appears to be a complete neglect of duty,” said sources, adding that the tall claims of cleanliness and sanitation made by the MC have rendered meaningless by the persistent piles of garbage.
The local administration has also been called out for their inaction, despite repeated complaints from residents about the unhygienic conditions. The situation poses a serious health risk as the garbage serves as a breeding ground for various diseases.
“’The much-publicized Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a national campaign for a clean India, seems to have failed to make an impact in Sunderbani,” said sources, adding that those responsible for the job have apparently turned blind eye towards the piles of garbage in the area.
Local residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) for redressal.
Attempts to contact the Tehsildar of Sunderbani for a statement were unsuccessful, as repeated calls went unanswered.
