Unlike earlier days, the situation in Jammu region has turned crucial as far as terrorism, and law and order are concerned making it imperative to take adequate measures to combat the terror threats as Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur districts have been targeted in recent times with terrorists showing their presence.
On one side, the search operation by Security Forces is underway in Dudu Basantgarh forests for the third consecutive day in J&K’s Udhampur after terrorists martyred a Village Defence Guard on Sunday and on the other the SSP Jammu District has asked the officers to keep eye on Over Ground Workers (OGWs), released and surrendered terrorists, history sheeters and other anti-social and anti-national elements to ensure peace and tranquility in the region.
It is necessary to review the latest security scenario in J&K as desperation of the outlaws and the terror mongers has crossed all limits with their handlers sitting across the borders asking them to continue with the violence and spread fear-psychosis among the people in J&K to carry out their agenda of creating unrest. The police and other security forces therefore need to be extra vigilant against the nefarious designs of the terror mongers and other law breakers as maintaining peace should be the top priority.
As the country is holding Lok Sabha polls, the threat perception is quite high and therefore cops in J&K cannot afford to go off guard because the violence mongers are on prowl to disturb peace on the behest of their mentors sitting across the border. It is advisable for the men in Khaki to remain proactive against trouble shooters and increase area domination in sensitive pockets especially near international borders and areas falling near LOC.
As the situation in Jammu and Kashmir shows signs of improvement, with terrorism seemingly dwindling towards what could be its final stages, there arises a paradoxical necessity for heightened vigilance among the security forces.
The seeming paradox lies in the fact that as the threat diminishes, the natural inclination might be to lower guard; however this is precisely when security needs to be most stringent. Historically, regions emerging from prolonged periods of terrorism face a volatile phase where the remnants of insurgent groups might attempt to reassert themselves through sporadic acts of violence. It is during these critical periods that counter-terrorism strategies need to be most alert, adaptive, and proactive.
