Rajouri, January 28
Following incessant media reports, Rural Development Department (RDD) in Rajouri Block Sunderbani has finally initiated an enquiry against a Technical Assistant (TA), accused of corrupt practices.
The TA has been accused of charging exorbitant rates for substandard work within the Nala Panchayat area.
“The enquiry was set in motion after persistent media coverage highlighted the alleged malpractices, prompting senior officers to take action,” said sources, adding “The Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) of Rajouri forwarded the enquiry, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations.”
A committee comprising officials from the Executive Engineer (XEN) office, Technical Officers, and the Block Development Officer (BDO) Seot was formed to investigate the matter.
“Though the team has been constituted, the officials should be asked how many times they visited the spot and how many times they checked the physical quality of the work,” said a social activist.
However, concerns have been raised regarding the progress of the enquiry, as more than two weeks have passed without any substantial findings.
“Speculation abounds that the ACD might be exerting influence over the enquiry process, leading to delays and potential manipulation of the investigation team,” alleged sources.
Sources maintained that the BDO has transferred the TA from the Nala Panchayat, signaling administrative action against the accused.
Furthermore, questions have been raised about the TA’s role, as they seem to be assuming responsibilities beyond their designated duties under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). It remains unclear how the TA was granted the authority to prepare bills and operate in a capacity resembling that of a senior position of a Junior Engineer.
Locals in the area requested the District Development Commissioner, Om Prakash to intervene and take strict action against those involved in corrupt practices.
They also requested the Principal Secretary, Dr Shahid Iqbal to intervene and initiate enquiry against the ACD for taking arbitrary decisions to encourage corrupt elements.
