Filth mocks at Swacch Bharat Abhiyan in Samba
Samba: In the backdrop of much publicised Prime Minister's Swatchhta Abhiyan with ample photo opportunities, civic body and district administration of Samba looks the other way whereas the town is exposed to heaps of garbage, spilling nallahas with solid waste and stinking marshy pockets dotting the town.
Some of the local hotels and restaurants, owned by the persons with political clout, are disposing off their food and other waste material in open on the roadsides or on their backyards as heaps of garbage witnessed at various places here.
Moreover, garbage and stagnant filthy water have been decomposing on the spot and emanating foul smell, adding to the woes of the residents.
Contrary to the claims of the municipal authorities that they are not only managing the system of garbage disposal efficiently but also keeping utmost cleanliness, residents of the area complained that garbage is not being lifted and stagnant filth not cleared on a regular basis by the civic authorities despite the issue raised many times. The situation is not much different in other parts of the town. It is worse within and around the New Bus Stand and side lanes where heaps of garbage could be often spotted.
“All this is happening while District Administration and Municipal Council lend deaf ears to the civic plight, said a local resident Amar Singh while expressing apprehension of spread of epidemic in coming weeks if appropriate cleanliness and fumigation steps not taken as these filthy patches would become breeding grounds for the mosquitoes.
“Sadly, the town is stinking with foul smell but nobody cares despite resentments expressed by the residents many times” said a local shopkeeper near the new bus stand.
