08 drug peddlers arrested across Valley

Srinagar, Feb 17: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested eight drug peddlers & recovered contraband substances from their possession in Kulgam, Awantipora and Srinagar. Besides, the cash amount of Rs 22,000 was also seized, the official handout reads.

Police spokesman in a statement stated that in Kulgam, officers from police station Kulgam headed by SHO PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established near filling station Chawalgam signalled a person carrying two gunny bags to stop but he tried to flee from the spot.

However, he was chased and apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. He has been identified as Ghulam Nabi Lone resident of Rambhama. During checking, officers were able to recover 11Kgs Poppy Straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 18/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kulgam and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

In Awantipora, police said that officers at a checkpoint established at Gallander Crossing Pampore of PS Pampore intercepted a vehicle (SX4) bearing registration number JK01L-2960 with three persons on board.

They have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Masoodi of Bagandar Pampore, Amir Hamid Lone and Owaise Gul both of Drangbal Pampore.

“During checking, officers were able to recover 10kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession. Officers have also seized cash amount of Rs 22000 from them. During questioning, the arrested trio admitted that the seized money pertains to the proceeds of the narcotic substances. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Pampore where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of has also been seized,” police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 18/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pampore and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, Srinagar Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested four drug peddlers in Srinagar and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Police spokesman   said the officers from Police Station Shergarhi on a checkpoint established at Dogerpatti Haft-Chinar intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK02W-0560 with two persons on board.

They have been identified as Adil Rashid Bhat of Usman Abad Bemina and Naveed Anjum Khan of Watal Kadal Safakadal.

“During checking, officers were able to recover 24 Small green colour cut polythene containing 12 grams of Heroin from their possession. Officers have also seized cash amount of Rs 6270 from them. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 08/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Shergarhi and investigation has been initiated.

In another action, officers from Police Station Nowhatta during patrolling/checking intercepted a vehicle (Ford Flesta) bearing registration number JK01R-3247 with two persons on board.

They have been identified as Saqib Latief Daga of Mahraj Gunj Urdu Bazar Srinagar and Abar Altaf Misgar of Tanki Mohalla Jamia Masjid Nowhatta.

During checking, officers were able to recover 24 grams of white colour powder Heroin from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, a case under FIR number 06/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Nowhatta and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood—(KNO)
