Srinagar, Sep 1: Local forecasters are predicting light to moderate rainfall for Jammu and Kashmir over the next day as a western disturbance moves through the region. The system could even bring some snowfall to higher elevations.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain cloudy with a chance of rain and thunderstorms increasing towards the evening and night of September 2nd. Precipitation may continue into the afternoon and evening of the 3rd before conditions dry out again.
A brief period of isolated to scattered rainfall is possible from September 6th to 7th as well. Otherwise, dry weather is in the forecast from the 8th through the 12th.
Officials have issued advisories cautioning that heavy downpours could cause flash flooding, landslides or mudslides in some vulnerable areas from the 2nd to 3rd. Rising water levels may lead to waterlogging too.
All hikers and tourists are encouraged to monitor conditions and adjust plans accordingly. An independent forecaster echoed that the western disturbance may produce light to moderate showers on Monday night into Tuesday with the most activity Tuesday night. Some spots may see briefly heavy rainfall.
This appears to be the last significant precipitation for around two weeks as high pressure builds in thereafter, though an isolated shower remains possible. Temperature readings have been close to average recently across Kashmir Valley stations.
Western disturbance may trigger moderate rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours
