Smartwatch users can now stay protected from pesky spam calls on the go, thanks to a new update from caller identification app Truecaller. According to my exclusive sources, Truecaller has just launched support for Wear OS powered smartwatches, allowing users to see who is calling right from their wrist.
While caller ID functionality has been a staple on smartphones for years, many smartwatch users found themselves caught off guard by calls from unknown numbers when their phone wasn't immediately accessible. This new feature from Truecaller aims to change that.
Once installed on a Wear OS watch, Truecaller will work in tandem with the smartphone app to identify callers and show their name or number on the watch face. Color coded rings indicate call category – blue for known contacts, green for businesses and red for suspected spam. With a glance, users can decide whether to accept or reject the call directly from their watch.
Truecaller also works without disrupting normal call handling, so voice calls can still be received and managed as usual via the paired phone. The app aims to keep smartwatches securely connected to the phone's call history as well.
To access these new identification and notification powers, all that's required is a smartphone with the Truecaller app and any Wear OS 3.0 or newer compatible smartwatch. Major brands like Samsung, Google, Fossil and more support the latest Wear OS interface.
With call scams on the rise, Truecaller's update brings a handy layer of protection to the wrist. Smartwatch owners can now stay informed about callers while keeping their hands free – helping consumers take back control from pesky spammers. Downloads of the new Wear OS app have already begun surging.
