In a sheer wastage of public money at the whims of planners and authorities, a government building, purposely the Dak Bungalow of the department in main Chowk Bhambla in Reasi, stands abandoned rendering it to dilapidated condition, raising questions about the lack of maintenance and care.

According to sources, the once-promising structure, meant to showcase the government's commitment to promote tourism in the region, now stands as an example of misplaced priority and a testament to negligence.

“The building, situated in the heart of Main Chowk Bhambla, was expected to become a focal point for tourists, but its current state is far from inviting,” said sources, adding that lack of maintenance has led to overgrown shrubs and wild grass in and around the building.

Local residents said that they are disappointed with the apparent disregard for the building's upkeep. “The exterior walls, intended to be a symbol of the region's natural beauty, are now covered in overgrown bushes, further detracting from the building's aesthetic appeal,” locals said, adding that they are still clueless why this building was raised when it was not for any purpose for the department.

Locals maintained that the present condition of the Dak Bungalow flattens the very claim of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, conceived by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

“Bureaucrats appear least bothered to maintain cleanliness and hygiene, as promised by Prime Minister and Lieutenant Governor. Despite complaints to tourism administration,  no action had been taken so far, ” stated locals.

They have requested the Lieutenant Governor and Additional Chief Secretary to take immediate action to address the issues regarding upkeep of the Building and have also demanded strict action against those officers, who had neglected any infrastructure created out of public money.

Despite repeated attempts to contact the Joint Director of the Tourism Department for comments on the deteriorating condition of the building, he was not available.
