‘AI is Helping Professionals Thrive, Human Skills Remain Crucial’
Leading technologists and industry experts recently came together at a convention in New Delhi to discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming careers. Meg Garlinghouse, vice president of social impact at the professional networking platform LinkedIn, said AI tools are enabling professionals to be more productive at work.
According to Garlinghouse, AI acts as a trusted assistant that helps users navigate their daily tasks. By taking over routine duties, AI frees up time for people to focus on creative and impactful work. This view represents a significant shift from earlier perceptions of AI as a threat to jobs. Panelists agreed AI offers great potential when viewed as a career enhancement tool rather than a replacement for human skills.
However, Garlinghouse noted barriers remain, especially for marginalized groups, underscoring the continued importance of interpersonal abilities. She said professionals balancing technical prowess with soft capabilities will thrive most in this evolving environment. LinkedIn is addressing such obstacles through features encouraging all users to actively engage.
Other speakers echoed AI can boost accessibility of opportunities. For example, in healthcare, it may allow entry-level doctors the expertise of seniors. Still, challenges in scaling AI locally were raised, like needing data in Indian languages. Panelists stressed the need for responsible, transparent and inclusive AI development through ecosystem cooperation.
As technologies advance rapidly, the debate suggested human qualities will stay indispensable in the workforce. AI appears poised to complement careers when guiding its adoption respects this balance between people and machines.
