As the sacred Amarnath Yatra is set to commence on 3rd July 2025, preparations in Jammu have taken a decisive turn towards strengthening surveillance and security. Though the Yatra is yet to begin formally, the arrival of pilgrims has already started in large numbers, especially via trains, turning the Jammu Railway Station and surrounding areas into bustling hubs of activity.
Recognising the increased footfall and the strategic sensitivity of the region, authorities have initiated a comprehensive surveillance plan. Nearly 200 CCTV cameras are being installed in and around the railway station, including outside prominent lodgings such as Saraswati Dham, Kalika Dham, Vaishnavi Dham, and adjoining hotels. This initiative reflects a coordinated effort involving the police, district administration, hotel owners, local residents, and the business community, aimed at fostering a safer environment.
A dedicated team of 30 to 40 personnel has been tasked with monitoring the CCTV footage on a regular basis. The objective is to keep a watchful eye on every visitor and pilgrim, ensuring any suspicious activity is identified and addressed promptly. The administration rightly believes that robust technological surveillance will prove vital in maintaining law and order throughout the duration of the Yatra.
With the Jammu Railway Station already experiencing heavy crowds, the influx is expected to surge significantly in the coming days. Designated as a highly sensitive zone, the area demands heightened vigilance to thwart any potential threats posed by anti-social elements. Security is being tightened through proactive use of technology and constant coordination among all stakeholders.
Consultations have been held regarding the placement of surveillance equipment at critical spots, and the integration of new systems is set to enhance the existing security framework. These steps aim not only to prevent untoward incidents but also to instill confidence among the pilgrims.
Public cooperation remains a cornerstone of this strategy. Citizens, especially hotel owners and locals, have been urged to stay alert and report any unusual activity. The message is simple yet powerful: collective vigilance will ensure a peaceful and successful Yatra.
As the city of Jammu gears up to welcome thousands of devotees, the emphasis on safety, discipline, and shared responsibility promises to set the tone for a spiritually fulfilling journey to the revered Amarnath cave.
