Jammu Tawi: Shiv Sena (UBT) staged a strong protest in Jammu today, condemning soaring inflation, the skyrocketing prices of essential food items, and the continuous decline of the Indian rupee. Led by party state president Manish Sahni, party workers gathered at Indira Chowk, holding placards and raising slogans against the government’s handling of the economic crisis.
“Inflation is tearing the sky, and the rupee is at rock bottom,” Sahni said, pointing to the sharp rise in the prices of everyday necessities like fruits, vegetables, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, and edible oils. He criticized the government’s failure to control prices, calling inflation a “darling” while nutritious food items have disappeared from the common man’s plate. “The kitchen budget of the common man has collapsed,” he said, noting that both nutritious food and basic staples like dal and roti were now beyond reach for many. The protest also highlighted the dual burden of inflation and black marketing in Jammu and Kashmir, where Sahni claimed the inflation rate had reached its highest levels compared to other states. Sahni also criticized the BJP government for failing to address inflation despite the promises made when they came to power in 2014, including the slogan “Enough of inflation.” He warned that if the current trend of rising inflation and unemployment continued, the common people would face dire consequences. In addition to the protest, Sahni extended his greetings on the occasion of Kartik Purnima and the 555th Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
