Srinagar, Nov 15: Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hamid Karra on Friday clarified that the demand for the restoration of Article 370 was not part of the resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. According to reports, Karra emphasized that the resolution focused solely on the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, with no mention of Article 370.
“We have already made our stance clear when the J&K Assembly passed the resolution. The only thing left to demand after the Supreme Court’s verdict on Article 370 is statehood,” Karra said, reaffirming his party’s position on the matter.
Karra, who represents the Central Shalteng constituency, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misrepresenting Congress’ position for political advantage ahead of the upcoming elections. “Despite our clear-cut statement, the BJP continues to distort facts,” he added.
Addressing recent remarks by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Karra said that Kharge had specifically asked the BJP to clarify who within the party had raised the issue of reinstating Article 370.
The issue of Article 370 remains a key point of contention in Jammu and Kashmir following its revocation by the central government in 2019, with different political parties taking varied stances on the matter.
