Srinagar, Mar 24 (KNO): Water logging due to inclement , led to thin attendance of students, at many educational institutions in Srinagar on Tuesday.

Most of the schools and colleges in Srinagar witnessed thin attendance of students due to incessant rainfall for the past few days which has resulted in fresh water-logging.

Students at Amar Singh College, Srinagar, said they could not attend classes, as the college lawn remained water-logged with college administration asking them to stay at home till the situation gets normal on the ground.

They alleged that college authorities watched the problems students faced in the wake of water logging as mute spectators. Students also alleged that no measures like installing dewatering pumps to clear college lawn from knee-deep rain water.

“We could not attend classes as the college lawns remained submerged. We also talked to our teachers to install dewatering pumps, but to our surprise we were asked to stay at home. Why did you come to college when it was raining heavily, our teachers told us,” Shabir, a student told news agency— News Observer (KNO).

Water logging due to heavy snowfall for the last four days also affected attendance in Kothibagh Girls higher secondary School and Sri Pratap Higher Secondary School's here.

Other government schools at Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar, Shivpora, Badamibagh cantonment, Sonwar and other places, particularly low lying areas, were also waterlogged. Many degree colleges, including SP College and Women College at MA Road, were also affected.

“It was impossible to walk through the knee deep submerged lawn of the school. So we decided to stay at home till there is some improvement in weather,” Insha, a class 12th student at Kothibagh girls school said—(KNO)
