Srinagar, June 17: The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy weather with intermittent rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir till June 25, while issuing an advisory asking people to take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that on June 17, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at many places, particularly during the afternoon.
From June 18 to June 22, the Union Territory is likely to witness generally cloudy conditions with one or two spells of light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning and gusty winds at many places, he said.
The forecast further indicates that from June 23 to June 25, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at a few places.
The MeT Department has advised orchardists to undertake spray operations during the early morning hours to minimise weather-related losses.
People have also been urged to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees during thunderstorms and strong winds. The department further advised suspension of boating activities and Shikara rides during thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
The weather office warned of the possibility of hailstorms at isolated places accompanied by brief intense showers over the next five days. It also cautioned that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods and mudslides at isolated vulnerable locations. (Agencies)
