Reasi, Jan 14: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have recovered charas worth Rs 18 lacs and drug proceeds & cash recovery amount to Rs 32 lacs in Reasi district.
“Ek Yudh Nashe Ke Virudh'-In the war against Drugs Abuse, Reasi Police achieved a major success, interrogated the arrested accused & recovered Charas of market worth Rs 17 lakh on the disclosure in Kakriyal Katra,” a police spokesman said.
On 9th of January, Bashir Ahmed, son of Muhammad Sharief of Chak Bhagta Tehsil Katra was arrested and police recovered crime proceeds of drug money Rs 14.35 lakh alongwith 26 challies of Charas from his possession.
In this regard, a case FIR number 07/2022 under section 8, 20, 25 NDPS Act Police Station Katra was registered against him and investigations initiated, police said.
“During further course of investigations, the accused Bashir Ahmed was put under sustained questioning by officers during which he confessed that he had hidden more packets of charas at his residence in fodder for cattle.”
On this, Reasi Police constituted a special team headed by senior Police officer who raided and made searches at suspected places including the house of accused Bashir, in the presence of Executive Magistrate (Naib Tehsildar). The police team recovered charas weighing 5.97 Kg, price in the (illegal drug) market of which is Rs 18 lakh.
Bashir is a notorious drug peddler, earlier remained involved in drug peddling case FIR number 22/2020 under section 8, 20, 29 NDPS Act Police station Reasi and facing trial in the case.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Shailender Singh terming the recovery as a big success of his team and giving the details of the case conveyed that in the case till now, Reasi Police seized 376 Challies of Charas weighing about 6.4 kg of worth of Rs 18 lacs and drug proceeds, cash of Rs 14 35 lacs.
