PM says New Delhi’s line of credit for development of Far East region of Russia will be a take off point for India’s Act Far East Policy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi this morning after completing his two-day visit to Russia. During his tour to Vladivostok, Far East region of Russia, Prime Minister attended 5th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), -Russia Annual Summit and held bilateral meetings with several leaders.

Addressing the Plenary Session of the EEF, Mr Modi announced a line of credit worth one Billion US dollars for the development of Far East region of Russia, giving a new dimension to economic diplomacy. He said, this announcement will prove to be a take off point for India's ‘Act Far East' policy.

Mr Modi said with the start of proposed Vladivostok-Chennai sea route, the relations of both countries will be further strengthened. He expressed happiness at the signing of more than 50 agreement at EEF platform. The Prime Minister thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for inviting him as the chief guest at the EEF for his love for India.

On the sidelines of Eastern Economic Forum, Mr Modi held a bilateral talks with his Japanese and Malaysian counterparts and Mangolian President. During his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad, Mr Modi raised the issue of extradition of Zakir Naik and asserted that the Indian officials will continue to hold deliberations with Malaysia in this regard.
