Babar Azam, Pakistan's star batsman and captain, is going through a lean patch with the bat according to statistics. However, former cricketer and captain Salman Agha feels it is just a temporary phase and expects the talismanic batter to bounce back soon.
Azam has failed to score big in his last 15 innings across formats, struggling to convert starts into substantial scores. His average is below par in the ongoing test series against Bangladesh as well. However, Agha believes such fluctuations are natural for any sportsman.
In a statement after Pakistan's second test, Agha backed Azam saying “All great athletes face difficulties at some point in their careers. Babar has been phenomenal for us over the years and carried the team on his shoulders frequently. A few low scores do not change his class and ability.”
The veteran Cricket administrator pointed out that Azam still has the backing of the team management and the country. “We are supporting him during this period and confident he will find his groove back very soon. As they say, form is temporary but class is permanent.”
Statistics show Azam tends to perform better at home than away. But Agha urged everyone to focus on other players as well. “The team does not depend on one individual alone. I appeal fans to trust Babar's capabilities and judgment during this transition phase.”
