Rajouri, June 17: Operation Sheruwali entered its 26th day on Wednesday as security forces intensified search and cordon operations in the dense Dorimal forests of the Gambhir Mughlan area in the Manjakote sector of Rajouri district, making it one of the longest ongoing counter-terror operations in the region in recent years.
The large-scale multi-agency operation, launched in late May, aims to trace and neutralise armed infiltrators believed to be hiding in the rugged mountainous terrain of the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan sector. Troops have stepped up searches across the challenging forest belt, where steep slopes, rocky mountains and dense vegetation continue to hamper operations.
Security personnel remain on high alert and are carrying out extensive area domination and surveillance measures to detect any suspicious movement in the forested region. Despite difficult terrain and operational challenges, the search operation is continuing without interruption.
The prolonged operation highlights the security forces’ sustained efforts to eliminate the terror threat and maintain peace and security in the border district of Rajouri.
Meanwhile, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and three Army personnel were injured in an accidental mine blast during a routine patrol near the Line of Control (LoC) in the forward Kalal area of the Nowshera sector on June 16, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police officials.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Nowshera Police Station said the incident occurred around 11 am when troops of 4 Kumaon were conducting a patrol in the forward LoC area. The injured personnel were evacuated from the site, given initial medical assistance and later shifted to the Army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur for specialised treatment.
Officials said the Kalal sector remains a sensitive LoC stretch where regular patrols are conducted to maintain operational vigilance and prevent infiltration attempts. Authorities are monitoring the condition of the injured personnel while assessing the circumstances surrounding the accidental blast. (Agencies)
