Samsung is known for continuously supporting its devices with new software upgrades long after their release. In early May, the technology giant will push out another such improvement, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of some older Galaxy smartphones and tablets using artificial intelligence.
As per the company's product support community, the One UI 6.1 update will introduce a suite of AI-powered functions to select Galaxy S, Z Flip, Z Fold and Tab S models released in 2021 and 2022. This includes flagships like the Galaxy S22 series as well as foldables like the Flip 4 and Fold 4.
Dubbed ‘Galaxy AI', the new features were originally unveiled on the recently launched Galaxy S23 FE. Now, Samsung is expanding their reach to allow additional users to benefit from the accelerated photo editing, instant language translations, personalized note-taking suggestions and more that AI can enable.
While the premium 2021 and 2022 devices will gain near-full access, the Galaxy S21 lineup and Z Flip 3 will receive a more limited set focused on image search and chat assistance. Samsung aims to put advanced AI within reach of over 100 million monthly active Galaxy users by 2024.
The One UI 6.1 rollout in early May will deliver Samsung's vision of enhanced productivity, creativity and communication through user-friendly AI tools optimized for mobile experiences. Only time will tell how users receive these new intelligent capabilities on their older Galaxy devices.
