Jammu Tawi, May 20: The Jammu region continues to experience relentless heat as temperatures soar, offering no respite to people. Kathua district has emerged as the hottest area, recording a season's maximum temperature of 43°C, accompanied by a minimum of 28°C.
According to an official of Meteorological Department, Jammu follows closely, with a sweltering high of 42°C and a minimum of 26°C. Similarly, Samba has also endured extreme heat, mirroring Jammu's temperature with a maximum of 42°C and a minimum of 26°C,.
Other areas are also facing intense heat.
Katra recorded a maximum temperature of 38°C and a minimum of 23°C. Reasi reported a high of 41°C and a low of 26°C, while Udhampur experienced a maximum of 39°C and a minimum of 26°C. Rajouri and Poonch, although slightly cooler, still faced considerable heat with maximum temperatures of 37°C and 36°C, and minimums of 23°C and 22°C, respectively.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the region will continue to experience generally dry weather from May 20 to May 27. “Overall, no significant weather activity till May 27,” the official stated, indicating that the current heatwave is likely to persist without any immediate relief.
People are advised to take necessary precautions to cope with the extreme temperatures, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and using protective measures against heat-related illnesses.
Kashmir, on the other hand, continued to enjoy pleasant weather with a fresh spell of rain in wide parts of the Valley, including Srinagar, late on Sunday attracting tourists in large numbers.
The summer capital Srinagar recorded a day temperature of 28.5 degrees Celsius and a night temperature of 12.4 degrees, the official said and added that the city's maximum and minimum temperatures were 3.3 and 1.0 notches above normal, respectively.
