Mughal Road Reopens Partially; Only LMVs Allowed For Four-Hour Window

Shopian, Jan 4: Authorities on Saturday reopened the Mughal Road for limited vehicular movement, permitting only Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) to ply during a restricted time period amid prevailing winter conditions.

As per official traffic advisories, the high-altitude road will remain open exclusively for LMVs from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. The decision was taken after an on-ground assessment of weather and road conditions, especially near the Peer Ki Gali stretch, which remains vulnerable to snowfall and icy surfaces during the winter season.

Officials clarified that Heavy Motor Vehicles and passenger buses are not permitted, and only LMVs complying with safety norms and winter preparedness requirements will be allowed. Drivers have been directed to strictly follow traffic instructions, avoid unnecessary halts, and ensure their vehicles are fit for cold-weather travel.

Traffic authorities cautioned that vehicular movement on the route remains subject to change depending on weather conditions and safety reviews. Commuters have been advised to check the latest traffic updates before commencing their journey and to travel strictly within the notified hours. (KNT)
