BJP State General Secretary Yudhvir Sethi today asked state administration to identify parking lots in old city, construct new ones or make the existing ones affordable but not harass people by lifting their vehicles from anywhere. He said in absence of parking lots or in presence of expensive parking fee people and especially shopkeepers are suffering.
A reputation of presidents of Bazar associations of old city which includes Sandeep Gupta (Ex Vice-President), Manish Sabarwal (Ex-General Secretary), Ramesh Mahajan (Ex-President), Dinesh Gupta (Ex-Chairman), Nitin Gupta, Suneel Gupta (General Secretary), Vimal Gupta (President) and Arjun Malhotra called on Yudhvir Sethi and expressed their concern over lifting of parking area from along women college, parade ground and outside Geeta Mandir area. They said that yellow lines must be marked all over the city and people asked to park vehicles inside those lines leaving enough space for carriageways. Like any other city, yellow lines in Jammu city should also segregate carriageway with parking areas.
Sethi gave a patient hearing to the deputation and accordingly asked state administration to help citizens and not create chaos in the city which is already marred with traffic congestion. He said that suggestions to mark yellow lines on all city roads is a good suggestions after which an awareness campaign should be launched asking people to park inside those lines.
Secondly the government must make parking charges affordable by bringing them to 10 and 5 for four and two wheelers respectively. People he added have to hop from one place to another in a day and paying hefty amount for parking pinches them. Ideally the government must ensure that parking is made free as it's the responsibility of government to provide parking while making malls and shopping arcades, he added.
Sethi said that since parking is not a luxury but a facility that's needed to make city move it should be made free and people given relief. Earlier, Sethi led presidents of Bazar Associations to meet Mayor JMC And SSP traffic who apprised them of problems being faced by the bazars in absence of adequate parking spaces and increased parking charges.
