PMVBRY: Young Indians Receiving Unprecedented Global Recognition, Says PM Modi

LG credits PM for inclusive development in J&K

Srinagar, Jun 19: Reaffirming his faith in India’s youth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that young Indians are receiving unprecedented global recognition for their talent, skills and potential, with the world increasingly acknowledging their capabilities.

Addressing a gathering after disbursing incentives worth Rs 2,400 crore to more than 15 lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY), the Prime Minister said the government is committed to ensuring that every young person gets an opportunity to transform potential into success.

Describing PMVBRY as more than just an employment scheme, Modi said it is designed to strengthen the aspirations of youth entering their first jobs while creating a strong bridge between industry and the workforce.

As part of the programme, events were organized at 200 locations across the country, with the main function held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. In Jammu and Kashmir, special events were conducted at the Convention Centre Jammu and Bari Brahmana Industrial Association, Samba.

Under the scheme in J&K, 1,522 employees received incentives worth Rs 74 lakh, while Rs 25.42 crore was transferred directly to 304 employers, aimed at promoting formal employment and expanding social security coverage.

Participating virtually in the UT-level programme, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for driving inclusive growth and expanding social security coverage in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the initiative reflects the UT’s transformative journey and provides new opportunities to the youth.

The Lieutenant Governor noted that before August 2019, workers in J&K were deprived of comprehensive social security protections. Following the implementation of the Employees’ Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act in November 2019, lakhs of workers were brought under the national social security framework for the first time.

Highlighting the significance of PMVBRY, Sinha said the scheme aims to make formal employment the norm, ensure wider social security coverage and help young people realize their aspirations. He said the scheme provides direct incentives to first-time employees while encouraging employers to generate additional jobs.

According to the Lieutenant Governor, more than 3,300 establishments in J&K have registered under the scheme, bringing over 22,500 youths into formal employment for the first time. More than 31,000 jobs have qualified for incentives, positively impacting over 53,000 citizens.

The programme was attended by public representatives, industry leaders, beneficiaries, employers and EPFO officials. Employment letters were also distributed to newly recruited workers during the events held in Jammu and Samba.
