    Jammu Tawi, Apr 06: At least three persons were attacked and critically injured by a leopard in a busy green belt park area near Gandhi Nagar, Jammu city on Tuesday. However, the leopard was later captured by teams of the Wildlife Protection department by using a tranquilizer gun.

    Officials told that on Tuesday morning, a leopard was spotted near a park of floriculture department in the green belt park area of Jammu following which teams of wildlife protection department and police rushed to the spot.

    “An operation was launched to capture the wild beast,” said officials, adding that the staff of wildlife protection department made multiple attempts to shoot the animal with tranquilizer gun and at last succeeded and captured the wild animal.

    “The operation lasted for over four hours after which the animal was captured using a tranquilizer gun,” said officials.

    Wildlife Protection department’s warden in Jammu, Anil Atri told that three persons were also injured during the operation. “Two staff members and one civilian were injured during the operation,” Atri said.

    He identified the injured as Veterinary Doctor Dr. Ranjeet Katoch, helper of wildlife department Dildar Khan and a civilian Ganga Ram.

    Meanwhile, locals have spotted one to two leopards in forest area of Bahu Fort in Jammu following which an operation has been launched to capture the animal.
