KVK celebrates National Nutrition Week

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e- University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated Nutrition Week today at its adopted village Kansi Patta of Reasi district which was attended by a large number of women farmers of the village. The programme was organized under the guidance of Associate Director Extension (ADE) and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora. The programme was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the significance of the event and said that every year nutritional week is celebrated from 1-7th of September throughout the country by organizing workshops, lectures, seminars, exhibitions, group discussions, rallies etc to aware the people about importance of nutritious food for their well being. He informed the participants that the campaign was first started in 1982 in order to promote the healthy life through the nutrition . He said that the theme of the National Nutrition Week for 2018 is “Go Further with Food”. He narrated that malnutrition is the major obstruction to the national development and there is need to intensify the efforts in battling malnourishment among children and women and for that more and more awareness is needed for the nutritional management. He stressed on the organic food products which are very safe for a healthy life. He also highlighted the concept of nutritional garden for the low-cost balanced diet. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi emphasized on the body weight management among the women, men, adolescent girls and boys. He informed the participants that underweight born children suffer from the various diseases and later on have diseases like heart attacks and diabetes. During the programme extension literature on healthy diet was also distributed among the participants. In this programme the participants asked various quarries which were answered by the KVK scientists in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Sh. Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with vote of thanks.
