Kulgam, Jun 22: Kulgam Police on Sunday launched massive search and surveillance operations across higher reaches, forest areas, orchards, nurseries and other vulnerable locations in the district ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026), officials said.
The coordinated exercise was carried out in sensitive and remote areas in collaboration with other security forces following specific security inputs, aimed at preventing any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the annual pilgrimage.
Police teams conducted extensive combing and area domination operations in difficult terrain and inaccessible forest routes to detect and neutralise possible security threats ahead of the yatra.
During the operations, several Over Ground Workers (OGWs) suspected of providing logistical support to militant networks were rounded up for questioning. Their activities and possible links are being investigated as part of preventive security measures, officials said.
Senior police officials said the operations are part of a broader security plan to ensure the safety of pilgrims, residents and all stakeholders associated with the pilgrimage. They added that security agencies remain committed to maintaining a strong security grid across the district.
Authorities said similar search and area domination exercises will continue in the coming days as part of intensified arrangements ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. (Agencies)
