    GMC-Jammu gets 250 MBBS seats

    JAMMU Tawi, Jul 13: For the first time since its operation, Jammu region’s premier hospital, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) will now have two hundred and fifty (250) MBBS seats as the permission for this enhancement in medical seats has been granted by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

     

    Earlier, the GMC-Jammu had 180 MBBS seats. The National Medical Commission (NMC) gave permission for enhancement of 20 seats last year thus taking the total number of MBBS seats at GMC-Jammu to 200.

     

    Following this, the GMC-Jammu authorities applied for permission of granting more MBBS seats.

     

    “The GMC-Jammu has now received the Letter of Permission (LoP) for enhancement of 50 MBBS seats from the NMC, which now takes the intake capacity of the GMC-Jammu to 250 seats,” the Principal of GMC-Jammu, Dr Ashutosh informed the Northlines.  

     

    It may be mentioned here that the GMC-Jammu and its Associated Hospitals have a total bed strength of near about 2800 beds. The Associated hospitals of GMC-Jammu are Psychiatric Hospital, SMGS Hospital at Shalamar, high-tech Super Specialty Hospital (SSH), Chest and Diseases Hospital.

     

    These enhanced 50 MBBS seats and overall the 250 seats are meant for GMC and its Associated Hospitals, sources said.

     

    They also said that 85% of the MBBS seats are for the locals in GMC and its Associated Hospitals, while the remaining 15% are for candidates at all India level.  

     

    The permission is hereby granted for an increase in annual intake of 50 MBBS seats (200 to 250 seats), from the academic year 2026-27 at GMC-Jammu under the University of Jammu, subject to the provisions of the NMC Act-2019, the NMC said.

     

    The medical colleges shall develop and maintain an official website containing updated information regarding the institution, including courses, teaching faculty, and their qualifications and experience, OPD and IPD statistics, birth and death records maintained under the applicable laws, the NMC said in its order.
