The Phillaur police made a significant drug bust on Thursday evening, arresting two individuals and recovering a banned substance from their possession. One of those detained was identified as Harpreet Singh, brother of prominent Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh.
According to authorities, Harpreet Singh and an accomplice named Lovepreet Singh were apprehended from their vehicle on the Phillaur-Amritsar highway. During a search of the suspects and their ride, officers discovered 4 grams of methamphetamine, commonly called “ice”, as well as drug paraphernalia like a scale and lighter.
Police said the men had obtained the illegal drugs from a Ludhiana supplier named Sandeep Arora, paying for the contraband via mobile payment apps. All three suspects have since been charged under relevant sections of India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Forensic analysis of the confiscated substance was also performed, confirming it to be the prohibited drug ice.
Harpreet Singh has faced legal troubles previously too, most recently in connection with seizures of unauthorized weapons from political rallies. The Phillaur police continue questioning the detained trio as they pursue further leads in the case. Their efforts represent an important step toward curbing the scourge of substance abuse and its associated criminal networks in the state.
