SRINAGAR, Apr 1: A militant was killed in a night-long encounter in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said on Wednesday.
The encounter broke out during a cordon and search operation launched on Tuesday night in the Arhama area following inputs about suspicious movement.
According to the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, a joint operation was carried out by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police based on specific intelligence inputs.
During the search, troops noticed suspicious activity. When challenged, the militants opened fire, prompting retaliation from the security forces.
The Army said the cordon was tactically reorganised amid intermittent firing, and troops responded effectively, leading to the killing of one militant.
Officials said the anti-terror operation was still underway in the area. (Agencies)
