Srinagar, Jul 21: A man accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district after being flagged by the Facial Recognition System (FRS) deployed as part of the security arrangements for the ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra, police said on Tuesday.
Police identified the accused as Danish Amin Reshi, a resident of Veersaran. According to a police spokesperson, the FRS generated an alert during routine verification, indicating his involvement in a previous criminal case.
Subsequent verification revealed that Reshi is an accused in a case registered under the UAPA at Police Station Pahalgam. He was immediately taken into custody for further legal proceedings, the spokesperson said.
The latest arrest comes amid heightened security measures for the annual pilgrimage. Police said the Facial Recognition System has played a key role in identifying suspects, with an alleged overground worker (OGW) apprehended on July 11 and three other individuals detained on July 8 with its assistance.
Anantnag Police said it continues to deploy advanced technological tools, including the Facial Recognition System, as part of the multi-layered security grid established to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims during the Amarnath Yatra. (Agencies)
