Jammu, Nov 28: Security forces on Friday launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in the higher reaches of Udhampur district following reports of suspicious movement, officials said.
The joint operation, involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF, was initiated in the Chigla-Balotha area of Basantgarh after inputs indicated the presence of three suspected individuals, they said.
Basantgarh falls along a traditional infiltration route frequently used by Pakistani terrorists who cross the International Border in Kathua before navigating through the mountainous terrain toward Doda and Kishtwar, eventually attempting to enter the Kashmir Valley. The region has witnessed multiple encounters and terror-related incidents in the past.
Searches were continuing till last reports came in, officials added. (Agencies)
