JAMMU, Jan 12: A major search operation is underway in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir, following reports of suspicious movements near the Line of Control (LoC). The operation, launched on January 11 by Army units in Bhattal area, is focused on tracking down suspected terrorists who are believed to have infiltrated the region.
The search was prompted after villagers reported unusual activity in the Jogiwan forest area, which raised concerns about potential terrorist infiltration. Security forces, including Army personnel, police parties, and sniffer dogs, are combing the area using drones and other advanced surveillance equipment.
Despite intense efforts, no trace of the suspected terrorists has been found so far. The operation has been expanded with more troops deployed to cover a wider area in the ongoing search. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the operation enters its second day.
In October 2024, a similar operation in the Akhnoor sector led to the elimination of three heavily armed terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) after a two-day encounter.
