Jammu, Feb 3: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in a remote forest area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.
The gunfight started during a joint search operation by the police and the Army in the Jaffer forest area of Ramnagar after contact was established with the militants. The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of two to three terrorists in the area.
Officials said the search operation in the vast forest belt began early Monday amid reports that the terrorists are affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit. Security forces had intensified surveillance and cordon measures in the hilly terrain to track their movement.
The exchange of fire was ongoing at the time of filing this report. No casualties have been reported from either side so far.
Further details are awaited as the operation continues in the area. (Agencies)
