The Jammu AIIMS started functioning around one and a half year back giving much hope to the people of this region but sadly it has not been made fully functional due to acute shortage of staff in all categories, including the faculty members.

As of now, there are a little over 2400 emplyess working at Jammu AIIMS. All these were recruited under phase-1 when this institution was made operational.

There are a total of 33 departments being made functional at Vijaipur AIIMS in Jammu including 20 Specialty and 13 Super Specialty departments.

The OPDs of all these 33 departments is functional but due to shortage of manpower the required health services are not being provided to the patients visiting the Jammu AIIMS.

As per the figures available, around 1500-1600 patients from different areas of J&K UT and different States of the country avail the OPD services at Jammu AIIMS.

In the first phase, a total of 183 faculty members were recruited for Jammu AIIMS when the institution started its operations. However, since then neither the faculty members and nor the staff in different categories has been appointed in this prestigious institution of Jammu.

It may be mentioned here that the government in the Lok Sabha informed the House around a week back that 64 posts of faculty members have been lying vacant in Jammu AIIMS.

Sources said that the workload has been increasing at Jammu AIIMS by the day but due to acute shortage of staff under different categories this institution has been not been able to function to its full capacity due to which the patient care is being badly hit.
