Playoff Berths Still Up For Grabs As IPL Enters Final Stage
With just a handful of games left in the league stage of IPL 2024, only Kolkata Knight Riders have safely booked their place in the playoffs. Rajasthan Royals currently sit in third place with 16 points from 12 games. A win in either of their remaining two home matches against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders should be enough to secure their playoff spot. Even losing both matches is unlikely to dislodge them given their positive net run rate.
In fourth are Chennai Super Kings with 14 points from 13 matches. They have just one game left against RCB in Bengaluru. A victory would guarantee their spot while defeat could open the door for rivals. They will hope Sunrisers lose one match to consolidate their position.
Hyderabad have also amassed 14 points from 12 matches and their positive net run rate gives them an advantage over Lucknow and Delhi. Winning one of their two home fixtures against Gujarat and Punjab should be sufficient but two wins could elevate them high up the table.
Royal Challengers trail in sixth place with 12 points and one game versus Super Kings. They need multiple results to swing in their favour along with a big win to boost their inferior run rate compared to Chennai and Hyderabad.
Lucknow sit seventh on 12 points but must win both their away matches against Delhi and Mumbai to harbor realistic playoff dreams given their significantly lower net run rate than nearby rivals.
Delhi bring up the rear in eighth spot and need a virtual miracle involving several losses for teams above them to sneak through. It looks a big ask for this star-studded side.
With so little separating half a dozen teams, the final week of the group stage is poised to produce high drama as playoffs spots remain on the line till the very end. Fans will be glued to see their teams’ fate unfold in what promises to be an enthralling finale.
