IndiGo to host prestigious IATA annual meeting in Delhi for the first time in over 40 years

IndiGo airline will play host to leaders from the global aviation industry next year as it welcomes the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) annual general meeting (AGM) to Delhi in June 2025. This prestigious event, which gathers top executives from over 300 airlines worldwide each year, will take place in India for the first time in over four decades.

IATA, the trade body representing majority of world’s airlines, last held its marquee gathering in the country back in 1983. Prior to that, another AGM was hosted in 1958 showcasing India on the global aviation map. Welcoming the decision, IATA Director General Willie Walsh said “India is firmly on track to becoming the planet’s third largest aviation market this decade, making it the perfect time to experience exciting new developments firsthand.”

Taking over as IATA’s new chair of the board of governors this week, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers expressed pride in organizing the event. He highlighted how India’s rise in the aviation sector has been remarkable with massive aircraft orders and infrastructure growth positioning it for continued dominance. Civil Aviation Minister Jotiraditya Scindia also termed hosting the AGM as a proud moment reflecting the sector’s tremendous expansion under the current government’s vision.

With passenger traffic reaching pre-pandemic levels, aviation infrastructure expanding to new cities and aircraft induction numbers breaking all records, India is leaving no stone unturned to cement its place among global aviation powerhouses. Welcoming worldwide stakeholders to Delhi next year will undoubtedly further explore growth opportunities within the promising Indian market.
