In a significant breakthrough, Himachal Pradesh Police has busted an inter-state drug trafficking network operating across state borders with the arrest of four drug peddlers hailing from Punjab. As per the Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, the police team intercepted the gang of four near Chaulanthi village based on a specific input. During thorough checking, the team recovered nearly 170 grams of heroin worth over Rs. 25 lakh from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul, Anil, Deepak and Karan – all residents of Amritsar in Punjab. SP Gandhi informed that a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against them and investigation is underway to uncover the entire supply chain. Further probe is also aiming to trace the financial dealings and money laundering angles involved in this racket. Over the past 15 months, Himachal Police has registered around 600 drug cases and apprehended approximately 1000 offenders through strategized drives against substance smuggling and peddling.
Earlier on World Drug Day, the Narcotics Control Bureau and state police joined hands to raise awareness on substance abuse through a bike rally in Shimla city. This seizure of significant quantity of contraband and arrest of four suppliers is a success in Himachal Police's resolute efforts to curb inter-state narcotics movement and make the hilly region drug-free. The accused are currently in police remand and thorough questioning will help identify more operatives and dismantle their network.
