Sir
Extending my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, I would like to express my views on the recent Mini-Bus accident that took place at Sui Gawari about 5km from Pul Doda on Kishtwar road. Being a layman I would like to express my feelings about the possibility of accidents on roads of hilly regions. Although there are numerous factors that results in frequent fatal accidents which are responsible for death of precious lives. In remote hilly belt Mini-Buses are often overloaded that invites heart breaking accidents to occur, dance of deaths and bloodshed on the roads. I think that the fault does not only lie on the driver and conductor of the vehicle but equally on those who board into such overloaded vehicles. Traffic Police remain in slumber and even absence of checking overloaded passengers, over-speeding and overtaking on the sharp and blind curve of road. Various factors are responsible for these fatal road accidents on the hilly roads of Jammu and Kashmir.
The roads in the hilly mountain region have lot of ditches and pits which play an important part in causing accidents. I think only instructions and directions of the Govt to the traffic police under this type of accidents and instituting an enquiry are nothing but an eye wash. Condoling the deaths and granting ex-gratia relief to the kin of deceased not helpful in stopping such future mishaps but the need of the hour is keep traffic police vigilant 24 hours on the roads to maintain traffic discipline like overloading, speed limit and overtaking, ban on use of mobile phone, loud tape recorders and other violations.
Hope that the Administration would take strong steps to check such dreadful recurrences in hills and elsewhere.
Yours etc…..
