Jammu, Aug 18: The Health Department has transferred Dr. Rajesh Kumar from Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Nowshera to Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, in compliance with the directions of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
Dr. Kumar had approached the tribunal after being denied transfer for several years, despite repeated representations. On August 7, 2025, the CAT reiterated its earlier ruling of February 27, 2025, under O.A. No. 61/193/2025, directing the UT administration to shift him without further delay.
The tribunal pulled up the department for ignoring its order, observing that Dr. Kumar’s prolonged posting at SDH Nowshera amounted to undue hardship and appeared discriminatory when compared to other doctors, who were transferred within two to three years.
CAT had also directed Commissioner/Secretary Health, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, to ensure compliance within two weeks, warning that failure could lead to salary attachment. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on August 21.
Following the directive, Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, issued the transfer order, simultaneously posting Dr. Abdul Hamid at SDH Nowshera to ensure continuity of patient care.
